Soaring arias and duets rub shoulders with jazz and the jitterbug, and Puccini shakes hands with Gershwin in this new production of Kurt Weill’s missing link between opera and Broadway. On a hot summer’s day on the East Side, tensions between the residents of a tenement block are pushed to boiling point, with devastating consequences. With numbers including ‘Lonely House’ and ‘Moon-faced, Starry-eyed’, it’s no wonder that Weill’s great American opera was awarded Best Original Score at the very first Tony Awards.

Conducted by one of the world’s leading interpreters of the composer, James Holmes, a strong cast is led by Giselle Allen and Robert Hayward, and directed by Matthew Eberhardt (Trouble in Tahiti).
