Tudor history, gothic thrills: Roberto Devereux in Bergamo

Jessica Pratt (Elisabetta) © Gianfranco Rota
Is Roberto Devereux the finest of Donizetti's four Tudor operas? Stephen Langridge's stylish, stylised production and a wonderful cast under Riccardo Frizza make a great case for it.

Mixed success for Irish National Opera's Maria Stuarda

Tara Erraught stars as the eponymous heroine with Anna Devin as her nemesis Elizabeth I in Donizetti's Maria Stuarda, but Tom Creed's modern update fails to convince at the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin.

An enjoyable Magic Flute from Irish National Opera

A thoroughly satisfying, entertaining production of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte from Irish National Opera. Anna Devin delivers a delightful Pamina and Nick Pritchard a convincing Tamino.

Irish National Opera's futuristic Hoffmann

Tom Creed's take on Offenbach's opéra fantastique works best in the Olympia act in this new production in Dublin.
