Zwar gibt es hier viel zu lachen, aber die zweifellos brillante Regie betont vornehmlich die Komik. Was noch an Tiefgang in der Oper steckt, nämlich die bittere Erkenntnis, zu wieviel Zynismus doch auch die Menschen fähig sind, kommt dadurch etwas zu kurz.

Giordano Bellincampi presides over a fleet and crisp performance of Beethoven's only opera, performed in Auckland Town Hall.
