Polished, characterful performances from the Bournemouth SO

Alpesh Chauhan presides over stylish accounts of Grieg and Sibelius and gives solid reasons why we should hear more performances of Sibelius' Third Symphony.

Born in the USA with Karabits and the BSO

A concert of Americana characterised by great tunes and infectious rhythms, but lacking emotional involvement and only partially realised communication by soloist Valeriy Sokolov.

Sunwook Kim strong and delicate in Beethoven with the BSO

Sir Mark Elder judges Dvořák’s “New World” Symphony to perfection in a fine concert from Poole.

Sunny Brahms, but musical tensions minimised in Bournemouth

David Hill conducted the orchestra in a programme under the heading "Love Lost and Found".

Not their finest hour: the BSO and Marta Gardolińska

Online concert organisers need to stage their events more successfully than what was on offer here from Bournemouth. Schubert, Lyadov and Shostakovich all wrote memorable pieces. Nothing much memorable about these performances though.

Impetuous and impassioned Romantics from Hough, Gardiner and the BSO

Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Stephen Hough and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra provide oodles of vibrancy and passion in Schumann and Brahms.

Paul Lewis evokes grisailles and watercolours

In a score which is often used as a vehicle to display the pianist’s virtuosity, there was a total lack of grandiloquence.

A delicious confection of classically inspired works from the BSO

French Baroque from a 20th-century perspective as well as the real deal with François Couperin's hommage to Jean-Baptiste Lully.
