Salle: Winchester Cathedral

This well devised programme brought out the best of The Sixteen in first rate performances under the charismatic Harry Christophers.     

A marvellously affirmative account of The Kingdom that brought thrilling intensity and evident commitment from the combined forces of the Waynflete Singers and the BSO.

Intended to signify the contribution of Russian music to the Western canon, the Royal Choral Society gave admirable performances of two major choral works, rarely heard in Winchester Cathedral.

Seven works by English composers created a journey from beauty to death as Remembrance day approaches. There wasn't much dwelling on the horrors of war itself, but plenty of human emotion and a sense of life sadly lost.

By calling this year’s Choral Pilgrimage tour The Earth Resounds and including excerpts from a piece known as the “Earthquake mass”, Harry Christophers and The Sixteen created an expectation of drama and excitement before they’d sung a single note.
