Oeuvre: Sur un sentier recouvert

In a concert celebrating 25 years since his Wigmore Hall debut, Polish pianist Piotr Anderszewski presented a programme of music with which he is most at home – works by Bach, Schumann and Szymanowski

The Institut Français’ three day festival “It’s all about Piano!” kicked off cinematically at King’s Place, with Mikhail Rudy’s compact double bill of Metamorphosis and Pictures at an Exhibition.

I have commented before about Marc-André Hamelin’s ability to tackle anything the piano repertoire can throw at him: the craggy, disparate edifice of Charles Ives’ Concord Sonata, Stockhausen’s Klavierstück IX, Villa-Lobos’ savage Rudepoema, the mannered classicism of Haydn, and the sweeping romanticism of Liszt.
