Blomstedt, in splendid form at 91, also paid tribute to his largely forgotten compatriot Franz Berwald, who died 150 years ago.

Berwald’s quirky Third Symphony opened the concert before a beautifully judged performance of Dvořák’s Seventh Symphony.
