For memorable tunes and the light-hearted humour of a classic romantic comedy with just the right amount of naughtiness thrown into the mix, you need look no further.

La Calisto is the Venetian opera par excellence: saucy, fun and bubbly, it follows the twin romances of gods Jupiter and Diana with the nymph Calisto and the shepherd Endymion. Inevitably, comic misadventures arise from their thwarted attempts at seduction, and many colourful characters play their part on the way. With music full of dance rhythms, they are constantly on their feet – or hooves.

ETO favourites Catherine Carby (Iphigénie en Tauride) and Paula Sides (Flavio, Agrippina) play the goddess-huntress and the girl-prey, while baritone George Humphreys makes his company debut as the lusty senior god.

La Calisto has turned quite a few heads over the years, and its delicious combination of scandalous behaviour and plush soundscapes is sure to draw as many gasps and blushes now as when it premiered during the Carnival of 1651.

Sung in English with surtitles.
