The first modern performance of a Handel pasticcio, based
on Leonardo Leo’s Catone in Utica (Venice 1729.) As
impresario, Handel would programme one pasticcio per
season. It enabled him to introduce the genre of Italian
opera to his London public. Catone also showcases
arias by Hasse, Porpora, Vivaldi and Vinci.
