The popular work Rigoletto is a masterpiece from Verdi's middle period. The jester Rigoletto holds a low and servile position in the dark underworld where Il duca di Mantova, a womanising playboy with riches and power who flits from woman to woman, and his entourage indulge in entertainment. The tragic tale of Rigoletto's pure and sincere daughter Gilda unfolds here amidst dramatic music and tension. This work features numerous famous arias that everyone--not just opera lovers--is sure to appreciate, such as La donna è mobile, Caro nome che il mio cor and Cortigiani, vil razza dannata! The beauty of the ensemble pieces also deserves special mention. This production from Emilio Sagi examines the characters' loneliness up close and stuns with beautifully iconic stage art.
The captivating Verdi baritone Vladimir Stoyanov appears in the leading role of Rigoletto. Il duca di Mantova is depicted by star tenor Lawrence Brownlee and Gilda is portrayed by Eri Nakamura, who has won great success in this role in London and other theaters. Under the skilled baton of conductor Daniele Callegari, a master of Italian opera, their voices shape an unforgettable work of art.
