It is seven years since HGO’s last production of Figaro, and the itch is once more upon us. There are always new treasures to find in this ageless masterpiece and this time round, Director Bruno Ravella and his designer Holly Seager have opted for a ‘revolutionary’ approach - so expect to be amazed.
Time and place will be true to Mozart and Da Ponte: Almaviva will remain Almaviva, his family will still be living near Seville, and we shall be in the 1780s. Yet we promise you will never have seen a setting as the one Bruno and Holly are preparing for us, or such a finale to the piece. As for the music, it will be in the safe hands of Musica Poetica London, directed from the harpsichord by Oliver-John Ruthven, with two starry casts of singers. Irresistible, isn’t it?
