Performer: Chiaroscuro Quartet

Hélène Clément is called in at the last minute to join the Chiaroscuro Quartet for their Wigmore Hall recital. 

If the Chiaroscuro Quartet experienced any nerves at their Edinburgh International Festival debut at the Queen’s Hall, complete with full house and BBC Radio 3 recording team in place, it certainly didn’t show. Formed in 2005, this young, period instrument quartet, appeared completely at ease and at one with the music.

Renouvelés par l'arrivée de Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux (ex-membre du Quatuor Confluence), les Chiaroscuro ont livré une très belle lecture du Quatuor K.421 de Mozart avant de montrer leurs limites dans Beethoven.

Trio (samt Zimmermannscher Unterstützung) und Quartett schlossen beinahe nahtlos an die gebannte Bewunderung des Vorabends an.

Schreiber, Cohen, Bezuidenhout und das Chiaroscuro Quartet brillieren mit Beethovens kammermusikalischen Schenkelklopfern und rücken sein Bild fulminant zurecht.

Ganz ohne das noch immer weithin übliche, omnipräsente Vibrieren eröffnete das Chiaroscuro Quartett faszinierende Einblicke auf die wahren Inhalte der Musik.
