Two very impressive debuts in the lead roles of Liam Scarlett's Swan Lake with The Royal Ballet, bodes well for the futures of Mariko Sasaki and Joseph Sissens.

Visually splendid, Liam Scarlett's Swan Lake showcases some wonderful dancing, but there is still room for improvement. 

Throughout the entire cast, every named role was performed with the mix of enthusiasm, affection and assuredness.

This wonderful ballet has never looked better at The Royal, especially in the remarkable performance of Natalia Osipova.

Benjamin Britten's final opera hasn't been staged by The Royal Opera in over 25 years, but his setting of Thomas Mann's Death in Venice receives a great new production by Sir David McVicar. 

On the evidence of this performance, there is every reason to be cheerful.
