There's a taste of magic in the air for the Puccini Festival’s opening production, a centennial Turandot. 

The French director’s much-travelled production arrives at the Teatro di San Carlo, displaying a precise balance between word, gesture and voice. 

Valentina Carrasco's contemporary staging, with impressive sets and singing, makes for a remarkable show at the Teatro dell'Opera. 

With so little of worth happening onstage, this performance requires a unanimously strong set of performances from the main cast.

Originally conceived by Robert Carsen for the Vlaamse Opera, this production of Katia Kabanova is now at Teatro Regio, second chapter of a Janáček/Carsen project.
