The Pittsburgh Symphony flanks Khachaturian’s flamboyant Violin Concerto with a Brahms symphony and a recent piece from Sean Shepherd. 

A trio of Romantic works are performed under the baton of Giancarlo Guerrero, making his Philharmonic debut alongside pianist Alessio Bax.

Konzertmusik is a showpiece for the sections it involves, but, as this performance demonstrated, its conversational structure brings with it a dry wit and rich dynamic which sets it apart.

After Helen Grimes makes her Symphony Hall debut, Johannes Moser is the soloist in William Walton's Cello Concerto, before Maurice Duruflé's Requiem comes as welcome consolation. 

The Thanksgiving weekend concert conducted by Giancarlo Guerrero, also included a dramatic reading of Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony and Copland’s El Salón México.

The Seattle Symphony, under the outstanding leadership of guest conductor Giancarlo Guerrero, overcame the absence of their maestro and gave a worthy reading of the monumental work.
