Krystian Zimerman, in the dual role of pianist and conductor, has orchestra and audience eating from his hands in Singapore.

Purity and clarity are hallmarks of Zimerman’s playing and there was an almost aristocratic composure to his phrasing in these splendid performances. 

Rattle excels in Dvořák and Janáček, but his rehabilitation of Bernstein stalls.
