Work: Solomon, HWV 67: Arrival of the Queen of Sheba

The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and soprano Julia Bullock invite us to listen to familiar pieces with fresh ears in invigorating performances at New York's 92NY.

To open the new season, the Seattle Symphony and Ludovic Morlot were joined by star mezzo Joyce DiDonato, whose performance sent listeners over the top and over the rainbow.

For once, the musical menu was a good deal more sultry than the temperatures in the Royal Albert Hall as the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic made a notable debut in a programme full of what Rudyard Kipling may well have described as “more-than-oriental splendour”.
