The Concert
Kick-start your evening with a 60-minute Half Six Fix concert. Introduced by the performers, with screens in the Hall to bring you closer to the action.
The Music
Although Rachmaninoff’s First Symphony was something of a flop at its premiere in 1897 (the conductor, Alexander Glazunov, was a little worse for drink), it’s a work that signalled the arrival of a great Russian composer. Revel in the ominous drama of the opening movement, the skittishness of the second and the thrill of the final Allegro that finishes in a blaze of brass-gilded glory.
The Performers
Principal Guest Conductor Gianandrea Noseda has this music coursing through his veins, having recorded all three Rachmaninoff symphonies with the BBC Philharmonic. Here, Noseda and the LSO are sure to take this early masterwork to extraordinary emotional heights.
Public booking opens Wednesday 16 April 10am
