A selection of songs performed by mezzo-soprano Kitty Whately and pianist William Vann, as part of a series of BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concerts showcasing music by Vaughan Williams and his Circle.
The Music
This programme explores evocative and poetic songs by British composers, spanning themes of nature, love and reflection. Vaughan Williams’ settings of Fredegond Shove’s poetry and his Four Last Songs offer deeply personal and expressive melodies. Works by Elizabeth Maconchy and Rebecca Clarke bring vivid imagery and emotional depth, while Grace Williams’ Rosabelle captures the power of the sea. Together, these pieces showcase the rich storytelling and lyrical beauty of 20th-century British song.

Kitty Whately, acclaimed mezzo-soprano known for her rich tone and expressive storytelling, performing across opera, concert and recital stages is joined for this concert by William Vann, an award-winning pianist and conductor, celebrated for his sensitive accompaniment and deep expertise in song repertoire.
