The world-renowned theatre collective FC Bergman draws inspiration for this opera production from two works by the Belgian composer Peter Benoit. His Lucifer and De Schelde have gone down in history as the first large-scale oratorios in Dutch. From these two works, Stef Aerts and Marie Vinck have crafted a new production – staged for the first time in full splendour – about pride and unbridled will. In Benoit’s scores, a leading role is reserved for an awe-inspiring double chorus, represented here by the full chorus and children’s chorus of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen and many additional choristers under the baton of conductor Stephan Zilias. This marks his baptism of fire as new music director of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen.
