| Marc-André Hamelin | Piano |
Master pianist Marc-André Hamelin is always happy to return to the Muziekgebouw, where the audience and acoustics never fail to inspire him. The Canadian is renowned for his phenomenal technique and stylistic versatility. In this recital, he weaves together Weinberg’s dramatic Fifth Piano Sonata and Chopin’s iconic Second Sonata with the mysterious music of Enescu and Debussy’s colourful Images.
Mieczysław Weinberg’s music is enjoying a remarkable resurgence in recent years. Long being overshadowed by his friend Dmitri Shostakovich, Weinberg’s distinct musical voice is emerging ever more powerfully. Hamelin displays his most subtle pianism within Debussy’s refined soundscape. The recital culminates in pure pianistic bravura: Earl Wild’s virtuoso etudes on the songs of George Gershwin. Sparkling, jazzy and spectacular.
Tickets: € 12,50 – € 53,00
