The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra returns to Warwick Arts Centre with Associate Conductor Emilia Hoving for a lively and colourful selection of folk-inspired orchestral music, featuring works by Sibelius, Vaughan Williams, Kodály, and Bartók.

Beginning in the rugged landscapes of Finland, Sibelius’ spirited Karelia Suite rings with pride for the traditions and heritage borne from the Karelia region of the country, which is filled with song from both its wildlife and people alike. Greatly inspired by the many English folk songs he collected and admired, Vaughan Williams’ Oboe Concerto features delicate and tuneful melodies brought to life by the Orchestra's Principal Oboe John Roberts.

Finally, prepare to be swayed by the spirit and rhythms of folk music and dance as Kodály weaves traditional Hungarian music into his opera Háry János, a witty interpretation of a comic folk tale, and Bartók captures the irresistible vitality of Eastern European dance traditions in his Dance Suite.
