Although musical history primarily emphasizes the string quartets originating in the Germanic region, from Haydn to Brahms, France also saw the development of a vast repertoire dedicated to this ensemble during the 19th century; today, it is a matter of rediscovering its traces. Thanks to the Quatuor Våren, two rare quartets will be discovered: No. 2 by Auguste de Sayve (late 1820s) and No. 8 by Charles Dancla (late 1850s). Two tendencies emerge from these pieces, written respectively by a student of Antoine Reicha and a disciple of Pierre Baillot: on the one hand, a focus on balance, on the other, the virtuosic tradition.

The concert will be followed by a toast.
