The Merry Wives of Windsor combines Shakespearean comedy with infectious music and a cast of lovable characters. Packed with laughter, romance and theatrical invention, it offers an enjoyable evening for everyone, whether they are seasoned opera goers or discovering opera for the first time.
Otto Nicolai's brilliantly composed lyrical romp is a staple of the German opera tradition.
Based on the libretto by Salomon Mosenthal after Shakespeare's play of the same name, this production will be sung in English in a newly commissioned translation.
The Merry Wives of Windsor will feature internationally celebrated singers, Longborough's Emerging Artists, Chorus and Orchestra. This new production is conducted by Longborough's new Music Director Christopher Ward and directed by Anna Morrissey.
