Enjoy an intimate Friday-night concert by Paris’ Modigliani Quartet. György Kurtág’s Hommage à Mihály András has been likened to a “12-course tasting menu” (earsense), and it’s a sumptuous one at that, offering 12 distinctly textured movements in barely 10 minutes. Beethoven’s first string quartet highlights the composer’s early mastery of classical idioms while also pointing toward his revolutionary use of contrasts, unprecedented emotional dynamism, and trademark proclivities for exploration. The performance also features Brahms’s String Quartet No. 2, a staple of the genre that bridges sublime Classical craftsmanship with a sincerely felt Romantic passion.
