Pablo Ferrández, cello

The thrilling young cellist and Anne-Sophie Mutter protégé Pablo Ferrández, who dazzled in his 2025 NYC debut on our stage, returns with a compelling solo recital. In this illuminating program, Ferrández pairs two of Bach’s iconic cello suites with suites by Catalan composer Gabriel Cassadó and British modernist Benjamin Britten. Cassadó studied under Pablo Casals, who famously revived interest in the Bach suites early in the 20th century. Cassadó’s 1926 response to the suites is a virtuosic work rich with Catalan flair, and a beautiful match for Ferrández’ artistry. Britten’s Cello Suite No.1 was composed in 1964, inspired by and written for Mstislav Rostropovich. The breathtaking work with its formidable technical demands reinvigorated the repertoire for solo cello. Ferrández’ international performing career has exploded.
