A match made in heaven, a once-in-a-lifetime concert: Matthias Goerne, Maria João Pires and Schubert’s Winterreise. This announcement alone is enough to make any Lieder enthusiast wildly excited. The two international giants performed Schubert’s masterpiece together for the first time in 2023. Bachtrack.com promptly hailed it as a ‘sublime Winterreise' and celebrated Goerne’s ‘vast mastery of the narrative, his diction, and his comprehensibility.’
Matthias Goerne, with his subtle and far-reaching baritone, is a regular guest at the Muziekgebouw. Maria João Pires, at over eighty years old, will make her debut. A memorable performance of Winterreise is assured. Bachtrack wrote: ‘If humbleness were to be found anywhere, it would be in the delicate and utterly discreet playing of Maria João Pires.’
