Southbank Centre: Queen Elizabeth HallBelvedere Road, London, Greater London, SE1 8XX, United Kingdom
Dates/times in London time zone

Taking place over two evenings this performance is a rare opportunity to experience the entire Christmas Oratorio as a seasonal treat.

Suzuki and the OAE are joined by a cast of soloists featuring some of the most dynamic rising stars of the UK’s historical performance scene.

The six cantatas that make up the Christmas Oratorio, were originally composed to be performed in Leipzig’s two main churches – St Thomas and St Nicholas – over six feast days during the Christmas period.

Part 4 would have been part of the celebrations for New Year’s Day, whilst Part 5 is gorgeously scored with prominent solo parts for oboe d’amore. Propelled by joyful trumpets and timpani, the closing Part 6, moves the action on to the journey and arrival of the Magi in Bethlehem at the festival of Epiphany.

Parts 1 – 3 are performed on 2 December.
