Hearing a visiting orchestra and conductor is like meeting a new person, or visiting a new place – part of the joy is getting to encounter something uniquely authentic; something that can’t be experienced any other way.
That goes double in this concert from the Brno Philharmonic. Naturally, nothing beats the unmistakable flavour of Janáček played by his own home town orchestra! But imagine hearing the music of living legend Philip Glass performed by two of his most devoted champions, conductor Dennis Russell Davies and pianist Maki Namekawa. His Mishima Concerto is based on music from his cult film score Mishima, but there’s something almost cinematic about Dvořák’s Seventh Symphony too: a stirring close to a concert full of drama.
