Hailed by The Guardian as 'a conductor of great sensitivity, intelligently and unfussily guiding the orchestra', Ilan Volkov has earned his reputation as one of today’s most perceptive and exciting conductors. He directs the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in Shostakovich’s gripping Fifth Symphony, and in rarely-heard music by innovative Russian composer Nikolai Roslavets, whose style recalls both Scriabin and Schoenberg. Pianist Ingrid Fliter has been praised by The Daily Telegraph for her 'winning instinct for the subtleties of rhythm', a quality perfectly suited to interpreting Ravel’s Piano Concerto, a work influenced by the composer’s newfound love of jazz.
