Five international choirs, eight soloists and a colossal orchestra: no wonder Mahler’s Eighth is known as the “Symphony of a Thousand”. “Try to imagine the whole universe beginning to ring and resound,” said Mahler. Exaggeration? Not when you hear it performed in Symphony Hall and not when Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla is conducting – so book early, as we launch the CBSO’s centenary year in truly roof-raising style.
CBSO+ 19 January, 5.30pm: Music writer and broadcaster Gavin Plumley delves into Mahler’s Eighth Symphony – one of the largest-scale choral works in the classical repertoire.
Please note the pre-concert talk will now start at 5.30pm, 15 minutes earlier than previously advertised, due to the Making an Entrance redevelopments. You will be asked to show your ticket for access into the pre-concert talk, and then invited to take your seat for the concert immediately after the talk concludes.
