Our 2026-2027 season of Musical Journeys Through Time studies how music has been influenced and changed over many centuries. We open our season with a bang, welcoming back Tim Horton to accompany us in a concert that studies variations. We begin in 1792 with Haydn’s Surprise Symphony and a musical idea anyone can follow: taking a tune and transforming it. Across this programme, four composers – from Haydn to Brahms, Rachmaninov and Lutosławski – reveal how the same principle can be witty, lyrical, virtuosic, or strikingly modern. The simplest musical form endlessly reinvented across two centuries.
