The Orchestra Teatro Regio Torino performed at the Easter Festival in 2017, and this year Turin’s other major orchestra is expected in Aix for a programme dedicated entirely to the genius of Richard Wagner.

Maestro Fabio Luisi, former musical director of the Vienna Symphony, and then principal conductor of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, brings us the best Wagner’s operas have to offer.

From the grandiose opening of Tannhaüser to Isolde’s poignant death scene – sung by Wagnerian singing’s newest sensation, the soprano Gun-Brit Barkmin – via the Good Friday Spell from Parsifal, he gives us a glimpse of the inventiveness and strength of one of the 19th century’s greatest (and most controversial) masters of music.
