Nadia Boulanger’s extraordinary life, influence and views form the basis of a fascinating musical story about one of the most consequential personalities in 20th-century music.
The subject also opens up an opportunity to reflect on how time allows ideologies to flow in and out of the zone of acceptability.
Nadia B Was Here shines a light on teaching, charisma, legacy and musical trends through music written by composers she educated, revered or collaborated with.
The world premiere performance includes music by, among others, Lili and Nadia Boulanger, Monteverdi, Bach, Piazzolla and Philip Glass.
The Norwegian Chamber Orchestra and artistic director Pekka Kuusisto last appeared together here in the critically acclaimed DSCH, a musical experience fusing theatre, lighting and visual elements to challenge the traditional concert form.
They are known for creating innovative, boundary-pushing performances – so this should be one to remember.
Pekka Kuusisto is a Southbank Centre Resident Artist for Classical Music: Spring/Summer 2027.
Tickets: from £26
