Perahia plays Beethoven: Concertos 2 & 4

Murray Perahia and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields continue Perahia’s 70th birthday Beethoven cycle with the 2nd and 4th concertos.

There’s something wonderfully poetic about the way Beethoven opens his Fourth Concerto. With Murray Perahia as both soloist and director of his beloved Academy of St Martin in the Fields, there should be a very tangible chemistry in this birthday concert.

But expect brilliance too. Perahia’s profound musical intelligence goes hand in hand with a true virtuoso technique – and no concerto demands quite as much clarity and joie-de-vivre as Beethoven’s youthful Second. ‘So much for mellowing’ remarked the New York Times after Perahia played Beethoven in 2015.
