The BBC Philharmonic returns
with Chief Conductor Gianandrea
Noseda to contrast the music of
Italy and Germany. Canadian violinist James Ehnes,
who has recorded all three of Bruch’s violin concertos,
is the soloist in the composer’s most enduring
contribution to the repertoire, and Sarah Tynan
appears in the concluding lullaby to the Blessed Virgin
Mary of Luigi Dallapiccola’s ambitious Partita, the
work which established the composer’s international
reputation. Schumann’s Fourth Symphony, continuing
our complete cycle in the bicentenary of the
composer’s birth, constitutes one of the most
exhilarating works in the Romantic repertoire.
