A rare opportunity to experience Schmitt’s score Antoine et Cléopâtre in a dramatic context with readings by actors from the Globe Theatre.

Florent Schmitt wrote his incidental music for André Gide’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s play in 1920. The evening, which combined the play with dancing (Ida Rubinstein took the role of Cleopatra), was epic in length, prompting Schmitt to create two orchestral suites. Conducted by Sakari Oramo, with actors from The Globe, this evening is a rare opportunity to experience this highly perfumed score in a dramatic context.
