Artist-in-focus Roderick Williams inhabits the role of the young wandering Romantic in this specially-curated song recital for Voices Unwrapped.

A.E. Housman’s haunting evocation of a generation of young men who would lose their lives in the First World War is heard in settings by Butterworth and CW Orr.

Lieder from Schumann’s indelible Liederkreis Op. 24 are threaded with Rebecca Clarke’s mesmerising miniatures, while Vaughan Williams’s Songs of Travel provide a blast of fresh air contrasted with the interior world of Chopin Preludes, performed by Paul Cibis. Woven through the evening are the irresistible hopes of Müller’s tragic young lover in Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin.
