“In what state does love find itself today, caught up in a crisis, a prey to doubt, faced with AIDS? What kinds of paths do feelings trace, what kind of itinerary is followed on a journey of the sentiments? If a capacity for resistance tends to fuel desire, it seems that a wish to check the course of passion – while shaping it to a particular end – ends by further exalting love.” Angelin Preljocaj

Angelin Preljocaj stands out as one of the most original personalities of French contemporary dance. In the search for what still remains of the “art of loving”, Preljocaj has turned to the literature of the 17th and 18th centuries, which spawned myriad conducts and codes for love, ranging from platonic sublimation to licentiousness. Guided by Mozart’s mesmerizing music, the choreographer constructs in three acts his little drama of amorous intrigues. On his cruel chessboard of passions, it is the dawning of true love that is at stake.
