Prokofiev and Korngold: twentieth century music at its most glamorous and gripping.
Forged in wartime and premiered to the sound of gunfire, Prokofiev’s towering Fifth Symphony is dedicated to “the greatness of the human spirit”. Sounds exciting? Guest conductor Tianyi Lu can’t wait to share it. First, though, a dream of freedom from Iran and violinist Carolin Widmann scales the sunlit heights of the violin concerto by Hollywood legend Erich Wolfgang Korngold: true romance, stunningly played.
