Greek and Roman myths, German and Scottish folksongs and gripping fables supply the subject matter of a programme of Schubert songs drawn from settings made during the composer’s miraculous creative period of 1815-24. Christopher Maltman, recently hailed by the Arts Desk for the ‘vocal strength’ of his interpretation of Wagner’s Wotan at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, is joined by Graham Johnson, among the all-time great champions of Schubert’s music.
