The world’s most beloved and frequently performed opera will open the 103rd Arena di Verona Opera Festival in a new production which, for the first time in the Arena’s history, will bring one of the French capital’s most iconic institutions to Verona: the Moulin Rouge.

Directing the production is the Scottish Paul Curran, now an opera director and formerly a collaborator with Baz Luhrmann on the musical film Moulin Rouge!, which celebrated the 25th anniversary of its theatrical release in recent weeks.

An original and visually striking interpretation that transports the audience to early 20th-century Paris, a hub of artistic and intellectual ferment, featuring an accurate historical reconstruction that does not compromise on spectacle.
