In a recent review of a recording of Vivaldi works by Capella Savaria, the prestigious British classical music magazine Gramophone wrote: "Not surprisingly, because the leader, Zsolt Kalló, is the soloist, an easy rapport between the players is palpable; the sound of his violin seamlessly emerges and merges with that of the orchestra.” It went on to observe that the ensemble played the music "in the spirit Vivaldi intended”. Formed in 1981, and thus celebrating 35 years of existence in 2016, the ensemble led by Kalló since 1999 is a pioneer in the Hungarian early music movement, which has garnered widespread acclaim with its presentations of Baroque works and performances of an international standard. Among the essential works in this repertoire are Bach's six Brandenburg Concertos, which delight the listener with their diverse instrumentation while confronting performers with musical challenges that represent the alpha and omega of the style. In the almost exactly 300-year-old masterpieces to be heard at this concert, sometimes described as a microcosm of Baroque music, the members of the ensemble are also spotlighted as soloists. A consecutive performance of all six works certainly promises to be an extraordinary occasion for concert-goers.
