Virtuosity infused with a tension which became almost unbearable

Nicola Benedetti dazzled in Szymanowski's Violin Concerto no 2 after the Hallé and Sir Mark Elder had impressed  with a colourful Fountains of Rome. Measured Brahms completed the programme.

Elgar, Szymanowski and Vaughan Williams may not be obvious concert companions, but with remarkable music-making these three sit beautifully together to make a special evening.
