The revival of David McVicar's production of Gounod's Faust provides spectacle and entertainment in spades, with strong performances from Ivan Magrì (Faust) and Teddy Tahu Rhodes (Méphistophélès).

Nicola Raab's production doesn't quite provide the bold rethinking it promises, but stylish execution and a fine cast make for an effective modern Traviata.

Luisa Miller in Zurich is a finely crafted and intelligent production in which Verdi's music supports a tragic story of bourgeois respectability. 

A dark and minimalist take on Verdi's beloved La Traviata misses the point at the Staatsoper im Schiller Theater in Berlin. Only the Staatskapelle Berlin orchestra and Alfredo Daza (Germont) emerge with credit.
