Radu Lupu provides a rare opportunity to see a legend at work, in recital at the Concertgebouw. 

At 71, Radu Lupu continues to amaze. No one gets so much out of a piano with such a light touch and minimum of effort. 

It's not plain-sailing in Lupu's Beethoven, but Järvi's clear-sighted and controlled approach and the Staatskapelle's high-quality playing make for especially musical Shostakovich after the interval. 

The Philadelphia Orchestra doesn’t look much different from any other orchestra, but their most recent program at Carnegie Hall with conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin produced at times unbelievable sounds.

The OSM opened their 2014 offering with an evening of Beethoven. Kent Nagano was at the helm with pianist Radu Lupu as the soloist in the Fourth Piano Concerto.

Any solo recital from Radu Lupu comes with the baggage of a cult, and this Carnegie Hall concert was no exception. Lavish praise from the weeklies aside, there really is something to the aura that surrounds this exquisite pianist. He has a unique sound, seeming to breathe with the concert hall's very air.

Established in 1987 by Leonard Bernstein, the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra last year joined the exclusive club of youth orchestras to have performed at the Salzburg Festival and was immediately invited back for a return appearance this season.
