Three aspects of fate were on display in this intriguing combination of the new, the less familiar and the unashamedly popular given by the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra under its chief conductor.

It's a rare treat to hear Spanish opera in London; Josep Pons and the BBC SO made a worthy case for hearing Falla’s El amor brujo and Granados’ Goyescas more often.

The Atlanta Symphony and guest conductor Jun Märkl spin a spell with Falla's El amor brujo, with soprano Catalina Cuervo. 

Gustavo Gimeno conducted the Cleveland Orchestra in a colorful program inclusive of a pair of Spanish works, Stravinsky’s Firebird, and the Lalo Cello Concerto with soloist Johannes Moser.

A fabulous Three-Cornered Hat followed by a ravishing Concierto de Aranjuez is side-tracked by an enigmatic El Amor brujo.
