Kullervo opens the 26th Sibelius Festival in Lahti, but the new edition brings a big change: not all the music will is by Sibelius! 

Paavo Järvi launches his tenure as Chief Conductor of Zurich’s fine Tonhalle Orchestra with works by Arvo Pärt and Jean Sibelius.

Thomas Dausgaard, Seattle Symphony’s Music Director Designate, arrived in town to lead the orchestra and its chorus in an impassioned account of Kullervo, the rarely heard Sibelius epic.

BBCSSO with Thomas Dausgaard, the Lund Male Choir and soloists gave a thrilling performance of Sibelius’ Kullervo with Finnish folk musicians joining the forces.

Sibelius' Kalevala-inspired epic is given the full treatment by the Orphei Drängar choir and the Gothenburg Symphony in Santtu-Matias Rouvali's inaugural concert as Chief Conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony.

After a lacklustre trio of concerts traversing the seven symphonies, Sibelius’ 150th anniversary Proms celebrations peaked with a gripping encounter with Kullervo.

Continuing with Sibelius, the Sydney Symphony presented another Finnish epic in their latest concert, this time Sibelius’ Kullervo Symphony. However, first of all we were treated to a Ravel masterpiece, his Piano Concerto in D for the left hand.This concerto was commissioned by the pianist Paul Wittgenstein, who had lost his right arm in World War I.
