The Israel Camerata Jerusalem Orchestra makes its Sydney debut in Dvořák, Koptyman and some rather old-fashioned Haydn. 

Juanjo Mena and the Oslo Philharmonic presented a programme of Haydn, Mozart and Brahms, drawing historical parallels, but most importantly showcasing some very fine playing.

What a night. The conductor, Paavo Järvi, made the evening’s performance riveting, with a modest yet heartfelt performance. There were no egos on the stage, just unpretentious and pure classical music. The programme was three works long: two symphonies either side of a violin concerto.

To dispel the kind of causeless tiredness which one might be tempted to put down to age, I think of Rameau, who only took up writing opera at the age of 50 - and henceforth I will think of Les Boréades, which he composed at the age of 80. Although rehearsed in 1763, the year before Rameau's death, the opera was never performed. The surviving suite of dances emerged only in the 20th century.

Au programme : une symphonie de Haydn, une création de HK Gruber et le ballet Petrouchka de Stravinsky, joués par le BBC Philharmonic et le percussionniste Colin Currie placés sous la baguette de John Storgårds. Une soirée agréable, mais pas incroyable.
