Any performance of Beethoven’s Symphony no. 9 is always eagerly awaited, but this one was especially, featuring the Australian Chamber Orchestra performing on period instruments, directed from the lead violin by their artistic director Richard Tognetti, with one of the best English collegiate choirs, the choir of Clare College, Cambridge.

Sowohl in elementarer Organik als auch in extremen Kontrasten packend, verpasst Pichon in geübter, plastisch-drastischer Art und bewährter Partnerschaft mit Bariton Degout Brahms ein neues, ebenfalls preiswürdiges Gesicht.

Dynamische Kontraste prägen den Eindruck einer Rarität von Brahms sowie Dvořáks „Neuer Welt”.

Programmer trois œuvres chorales de Johannes Brahms, Pascal Dusapin et Maurice Duruflé était déjà très une belle idée. Surtout, lorsque le chœur invité pour la circonstance est un des meilleurs ensembles européens, le RIAS Kammerchor. Magnifique soirée donc que ce concert donné à la Philharmonie 2 (anciennement Cité de la Musique), malheureusement devant une salle peu remplie.
